Overview

Loonie Nest is owned and operated by Ventrous Labs Inc. ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our website and calculators at LoonieNest.com (the "Service").

The short version: We don't collect or store your personal financial data. All calculations happen in your browser. We do collect de-identified usage data from completed calculator submissions to help improve our calculators, but this information cannot be used to identify you.

Information We Don't Collect

Our calculators are designed to be privacy-first. When you use our retirement calculators:

• Your financial data (income, savings, assets) entered during the session stays in your browser and is not transmitted to us.
• After completing the calculator, we collect de-identified, aggregated usage data (such as age, province, sex, retirement assumptions, etc.) to help improve our calculators. This data cannot identify you.
• We do not create user accounts or profiles.
• We do not sell or share your calculator data.

Note: If you choose to use our optional advisor matching service, that information is handled separately (see "Advisor Matching Service" below).

Information We May Collect

Like most websites, we may collect limited technical information to help us improve the Service:

Calculator Usage Analytics

When you complete a calculator submission, we collect de-identified usage data, including:

• Age, sex, and province
• Retirement assumptions (retirement age, CPP/OAS start age, pension, risk level)
• Rounded financial inputs (total savings, monthly spending, LIRA, home equity)
• Calculated outputs (financial status, monthly net income, savings depletion age)
• Submission date
• Funnel and attribution information (entry point, optional UTM parameters)

This data is stored in aggregate form and is used only to improve the calculators and understand usage patterns. It cannot be used to identify individual users.

Technical Data

Standard server logs may include IP addresses, browser type, and referring pages. This data is used only for security and performance monitoring.

Advisor Matching Service

We offer an optional service to connect you with licensed financial advisors. If you choose to use this service, we collect additional information:

• Contact Information: Name, email address, and optionally phone number so advisors can reach you.
• Preferences: Your preferred contact method and areas of financial planning you're interested in.
• Advisor Status: Whether you currently work with a financial advisor.

This service is entirely optional. If you prefer not to share your information, you can continue using our calculators without restriction.

Cookies and Session Storage

Our calculators use your browser's session storage to:

• Remember your calculator inputs during a session

This data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to us. Data stored in session storage is separate from the de-identified analytics collected from completed submissions. Session storage is automatically cleared when you close your browser tab. You can also clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's session storage or using your browser's private/incognito mode.

We set one first-party cookie, _ln_ref, which stores the address of the webpage you came from (for example, a search engine or social media site) so we can understand how visitors find us. This cookie expires within 2 hours and is not used for advertising or to identify you. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Note: Google Analytics 4 (GA4) may set cookies to track website usage. These cookies are managed by Google and are separate from our calculator session storage. You can opt out of GA4 tracking via your browser settings or Google's opt-out tools.

Third-Party Services

Our website uses third-party services for hosting, analytics, and functionality. These services have their own privacy policies. We select services that respect user privacy and minimize data collection.

• Google Analytics 4 (GA4): GA4 collects data such as pageviews, clicks, referral source, and device/browser information. This data is aggregated and anonymized and does not include personal financial data. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
• Neon: We use Neon to host our PostgreSQL database, which stores de-identified calculator analytics securely. Neon provides encrypted, enterprise-grade hosting and adheres to recognized security and privacy standards. For more information, see Neon's privacy documentation.
• Vercel Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics for performance monitoring and basic usage statistics. Vercel's privacy practices are outlined in their Privacy Policy.

Data Security

We use HTTPS encryption for all connections to our website. Since we don't collect your financial data, there's minimal risk of sensitive information being compromised. However, please be aware that no internet transmission is 100% secure.

Your Rights

Under British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have rights regarding your personal information, including:

• The right to know what personal information we hold about you
• The right to request correction of inaccurate information
• The right to withdraw consent for data collection

Since we only collect de-identified analytics and minimal technical information, there is typically little personal information to access or delete. If you have questions, please contact us.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
